After retinal detachment surgery, you need to stay in bed to recuperate, and it is not recommended to get out of bed immediately for brisk walking. Depending on the type of surgery, you should wait for the wound to gradually heal before you consider brisk walking. Retinal detachment surgery can be categorized as external or internal surgery, and the recovery time varies among different surgical procedures. Generally, the external retinal surgery does not require intraocular filling, and mainly utilizes condensation or laser to close the retinal tear, which may require 2-3 weeks of recovery time, during which you should avoid fast walking and other sports as much as possible. If intraretinal approach surgery is performed, depending on the severity of the condition, different intraocular fillers can be chosen, such as sterile air filling, which may take 1-3 weeks before brisk walking exercise; inert gas filling, which may take 4-12 weeks of recovery time; and silicone oil filling, which may take 3-6 months before brisk walking is allowed. After retinal detachment surgery, you should take good postoperative care, stay in bed as much as possible, keep the injured area clean and hygienic, and change medication regularly to avoid wound infection and inflammation.
