The difference between drying dampness, dispelling dampness and transforming dampness lies in the difference in definition, function and medication.
1. Different definitions: drying dampness generally refers to the use of bitter medicines to dispel dampness, dispelling dampness usually refers to the elimination of dampness in the body by strengthening the spleen, and transforming dampness refers to the lifting of superficial evidence and the use of aromatic drugs to transform the evil of dampness.
2. Different roles: Dampness-dispelling is usually used to treat diseases caused by dampness-heat underflow (dampness and heat evils invading the intestines, bladder, pubic area, lower limbs, etc.) and to dispel dampness-heat in the large intestine, such as diarrhea, mucus stools and other symptoms.
Dispelling dampness is generally used for symptoms such as heat in the body and dryness in the mouth, loss of appetite, and fatigue in the limbs caused by summer-dampness pathogens.
Resolving dampness, on the other hand, is mainly used for symptoms such as poor appetite and bloating after eating caused by dampness obstructing the middle jiao (dampness obstructing the functions of the spleen and stomach), and dampness in the spleen and stomach, which leads to dysfunction of the spleen and stomach in transportation and digestion.
3. Different medicines: The medicines used for drying dampness may include Poria, Cardamom, Houpu and other Chinese herbs. Dampness-expelling drugs generally include herbs such as red beans, moneywort, and Herba Euphrasia. Dampness transforming drugs can choose Pei Lan, sand nuts, patchouli and other Chinese herbs.
Patients with dampness in the body should seek medical advice and use medication under the guidance of a doctor to identify the symptoms.
