What to do if you are afraid of gastroscopy

The head end of the gastroscope has a high-definition camera that is sent to the stomach to show the lesions inside clearly, which is crucial for determining the nature of stomach disease. But the long tube of nearly 1 cm caliber, inserted into the throat, still scares many people. If you are afraid of a gastroscopy, I believe a CT is not scary at all. The virtual gastroscopy, a byproduct of the virtual laparoscopy we perform with pneumoperitoneal CT, can be an alternative for many patients who are afraid of gastroscopy. See the pictures for yourself. Attached are virtual gastroscopy photos of two patients, the first one has passed away 2 years ago and has an obvious tumor in the pyloric duct, the latter one has a normal pylorus. Recently we controlled a case of mild mucosal elevation in the early gastric sinus (the lesion was also not obvious under gastroscopy and pathological biopsy confirmed adenocarcinoma), and the recognition ability of virtual gastroscopy for only mild abnormalities in the early mucosa could not be determined yet. For cases with obvious morphological changes, especially those where gastroscopy has been confirmed and the localization is confirmed before surgery, this method gives an intuitive display of the large three-dimensional spatial location, which is particularly suitable for the reading habits of surgeons. It can save the patient from suffering another gastroscopy (I have personally tasted the feeling of gastroscopy).
