How does breast reduction work?

Breast reduction, or giant breast reduction surgery, is a procedure in which the breasts are reduced by removing the skin and subcutaneous tissue that has been delivered to the breasts and moving the nipple and areola upward.
There are many surgical options for breast reduction surgery, depending on the condition of each patient’s breasts, but the basic surgical steps are generally the same.
During the surgery, loose breast skin and subcutaneous tissue, excessive breast tissue are removed to reshape the hemispherical shape of the breasts, while the nipple and areola are lifted up to a normal position to reduce the size of the breasts, elevate the position of the breasts, and tighten the surface skin.
The incision for this procedure is usually made at the lower breast crease, a more discreet location that achieves better postoperative results.
Patients suffering from enlarged breasts should go to breast surgery or plastic surgery department of regular hospitals for checkups, and then undergo the surgery after selecting the treatment plan. Experienced surgeons can minimize many sequelae that may be caused by the surgery, such as scar hyperplasia, nipple areola necrosis, and so on.
