There have been cases reported in France, Japan and other countries where babies died of botulinum toxin poisoning due to taking honey. So, to be safe, do not give honey to infants. For infants, if they have a cough, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests trying apple juice to stop the cough, and if necessary, seeing a doctor for symptomatic treatment such as nebulization under the doctor’s guidance, but it is usually not recommended that infants and young children take over-the-counter cough suppressants. Is honey considered a health food? According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, honey is a free sugar and its intake is restricted for both adults and children.
