What does Ascus mean?

Ascus is a squamous epithelial cell lesion without a clear diagnosis, which may be due to inflammatory irritation, cervical epitheliopathy, etc., and requires further testing to make a definitive diagnosis. Ascus is a state between normal and cervical epitheliopathy on cervical TCT (liquid-based thin layer cytometry). If Ascus results appear in the initial screening for cervical cancer, it suggests that there are abnormalities in the cervical epithelium, but they have not yet met the criteria for precancerous lesions, and the diagnosis is unclear, so it is necessary to go to the hospital in a timely manner to have a colposcopy and take a biopsy, and then carry out the next step in the treatment according to the pathology results. If there is no abnormality in the pathological result, it is mostly due to inflammation stimulation, so conservative treatment and regular physical examination can be chosen according to the doctor’s instruction; if the pathological result shows that the cervical epithelium is diseased, appropriate surgical treatment can be chosen according to the degree of disease and the patient’s own condition under the doctor’s guidance.
