How to Rehabilitate a Fractured Elbow

Elbow fracture can be treated by conservative treatment and surgery, and the later rehabilitation training is different for different treatments.
1. If the elbow fracture is treated conservatively, besides immobilizing the elbow joint, the other joints should start to move the wrist joint, the metacarpophalangeal joint, and the shoulder joint under the instruction of the doctor as soon as possible. This is because if the remaining joints are immobilized for a long period of time as the elbow joint, the range of motion of the joint may still be limited to varying degrees after the cast is removed.
At the same time, active static exercise of upper limb and forearm strength and active muscle contraction should be carried out to avoid muscle atrophy.
2. For patients with elbow fracture treated by surgery, if the fixation is strong enough and no brace or plaster is given after surgery, in addition to the above movements, elbow flexion and extension exercises can be started at an early stage under the guidance of the doctor, which is to avoid elbow joint stiffness and heterotopic ossification.
Patients can use elbow active flexion exercises, straighten the elbow big maximum, then flexion once a day, gradually increase the amount. Immediately after the activity of pain with a cold compress, 15-20 minutes. Forearm rotation exercises, take a sitting position forearm on the table hand holding the gymnastics bar, rotary movement, 15-20 times each time, twice a day.
Due to the specific fracture site and different fixation methods, the training method is personalized and scientific. It is recommended that patients exercise under the guidance of a doctor to prevent physical injury caused by improper operation of self-exercise.
