Where is the tracheotomy located

The location of tracheotomy is usually at the 3rd-4th cartilage ring in the midline of the neck. Tracheotomy is a common clinical surgical procedure, especially in cases of severe facial and neck injuries, or when the patient is critically ill after major surgery, when traumatic tracheotomy is used to provide timely mechanical ventilation to the patient, which is an important measure to save his life at the critical moment. The operation is usually performed by making an incision 2 cm above the sternum, then cutting the skin, separating the subcutaneous superficial fascia and muscles such as the cervicalis brevis muscle, handling the thyroid gland to expose the trachea by lightly freeing it on both sides, then using a sharp knife to cut at the 3-4 cartilage ring of the trachea, then placing the tracheal tube sleeve inward and fixing it after making sure the breathing is clear. It is important to note that when performing tracheotomy, do not allow the patient to hold his breath or do not cut while the patient is coughing, because after cutting the trachea with a sharp knife, only 2-3 mm need to be pierced, otherwise it is easy to damage the posterior wall of the trachea.
