If you have a normal menstrual cycle of 28 days or longer, you can have your sex hormone panel checked on the fifth day of your period. If your menstrual cycle is too short, less than 23 days, it is too late to check the sex hormone panel on the fifth day of your menstrual cycle. The longer the menstrual cycle, the longer the follicular phase and the later the ovulation period. In patients with short menstrual cycles, the follicles will mature earlier. Before having a sex hormone test, it is advisable to have an intracavitary ultrasound to rule out premature follicular maturation or ovarian cysts, so as not to affect the results of the test.
