Acupuncture points used to treat toothache include Nei Ting, Xia Guan, Cheek Che, and He Gu.
Nei Ting is located between the third and second toes on the back of the foot; Xia Guan is on the face, in front of the ear screen, between the mandibular incision and the zygomatic arch; Che Che is on the face, at the elevation of the biting muscle; and He Gu is on the dorsum of the hand, at the midpoint of the medial side of the second metacarpal bone.
Cheek Che and Xia Guan are localized points, which can drain the qi of the foot Yangming meridian, reduce swelling and relieve pain; He Gu is one of the four general points, “the face and mouth of the He Gu collection”, for the treatment of toothache; Nei Ting is the Xing point of the foot Yangming gastric meridian, which can clear and diarrhoea the heat of the Yangming fire.
