What is thrush?

Thrush is a disease caused by an oral candida infection. It is most common in infants and young children up to two years of age. Thrush, also known as snow mouth disease, is a disease caused by Candida albicans infection, which belongs to the category of fungal infection.
It is a fungal infection that occurs in infants under two years of age when white patches, similar to milk lumps, appear on the oral mucosa. The white patches are difficult to erase, revealing bright red wounds on the inside after they are erased. It occurs on the buccal tongue and soft palate. In severe cases, infants and young children may cry, have difficulty breastfeeding, and may even develop fever.
Thrush requires antifungal infection, and a weak alkaline solution can be used to clean the child’s mouth and toys to avoid cross-infection. For specific cases, go to the Oral and Mucous Membrane Department and follow the doctor’s instructions.
