The efficacy of Xia Kuo Cao, an anti-cancer herb

Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Xia Kuo Cao has anti-cancer pharmacological effects such as: induction of apoptosis of cancer cells, anti-tumor multi-drug resistance to chemotherapy drugs and anti-tumor angiogenesis. Patients with thyroid cancer often show a lump in front of the neck, the color of the skin remains unchanged, and it grows bigger day by day without any sound. Xia Ku Cao is one of the most commonly used herbal medicines in the treatment of thyroid cancer because it is effective in dispersing lumps and decreasing swelling, and it can also clear heat and detoxify cancer. It is especially suitable for patients with thyroid cancer who suffer from heart trouble, fever, red tongue and yellow fur. It is often used in combination with Aromatic herb, seaweed, kombu, zhebei, sea shells, Chenpi, Sempervivum, Poria, raw oyster and Huang Yaozi to dissolve phlegm and disperse nodules. It can be used in combination with Angelica sinensis, Fructus Lycii, Radix et Rhizoma Drynariae, Radix et Rhizoma Mucronatae and Radix et Rhizoma Mulberry to nourish liver and yin, etc. It can be used for patients with thyroid cancer who have liver and yin deficiency, such as blurred head and eyes, astringent eyes, troubled heart and difficulty in sleeping. Xia Ku Cao dosage: for internal use: decoction, 6-15g, large dose up to 30g; boiled in paste or into pills or powder. Externally: decoction of water for washing or compress. Note: Clinically, there have been reports of allergic reactions caused after taking Xia Ku Cao decoction orally for 5 minutes, manifested as whole body skin color and face, red and purple eyes, swelling of throat, tongue and lips, nasal congestion and runny nose, difficult language and asthmatic heart, which can be relieved after symptomatic treatment. There are also reports of scattered reddish-brown corn-like papules with itching all over the body after 1 hour of internal administration of this product, and the symptoms can disappear on their own after stopping the drug.
