Half-summer is used internally to dry dampness, dissolve phlegm, stop vomiting and eliminate lumps. Half-summer is the dried tuber of half-summer in the family of Amanita muscaria. It is pungent in flavor and warm in nature; it is poisonous. It belongs to spleen, stomach and lung meridians. It has the effects of drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm from the body by drying dampness), lowering the rebelliousness and stopping vomiting (stopping the upward flow of gastric qi, stopping vomiting), and eliminating lumps and dispersing knots. It can be used to treat damp phlegm and cold phlegm, cough and phlegm, phlegm-drinking palpitations (caused by phlegm-drinking and evil qi), wind-phlegm dizziness, phlegm-convulsive headache (caused by phlegm-obstructing qi), vomiting and regurgitation, chest and epigastric tightness, prune nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal hypersensitivity); and externally, carbuncle, swelling and phlegm-nucleus (the nodule that is like a nucleus that is swollen up under the skin). Half-summer concoctions include Qing half-summer, Jiang half-summer, and Fa half-summer. Qing Hanxia is good at drying dampness and resolving phlegm, Jiang Hanxia is good at warming the middle and resolving phlegm, stopping vomiting and lowering rebelliousness, and Fa Hanxia is good at dispelling cold phlegm and harmonizing the spleen and stomach. It is recommended that patients choose the medication under the guidance of a doctor and do not take the medication on their own.
