Children with UTIs can be treated with urology, nephrology or general internal medicine, and children under 14 years of age with UTIs are best treated at a specialized children’s hospital with the appropriate department or, if the onset is urgent, with emergency internal medicine. For example, adults with UTIs can prefer quinolone antibiotics such as levofloxacin for anti-infection treatment, but children and adolescents under the age of 18 should not use quinolone antibiotics for anti-infection treatment to avoid adverse reactions that may affect growth and development. So the choice of drugs for UTI in children is relatively different from that of adults. For children, safer antibiotics may include penicillin-like amoxicillin or cephalosporins, which will be relatively safe.
