Can I take off my knee brace to sleep with a grade 3 medial meniscus injury treated conservatively?

When a grade 3 medial meniscus injury is treated conservatively with a knee brace, it should not be removed during sleep.

The main purpose of conservative treatment of meniscus injuries with a brace is to provide good stability to the environment where the meniscus is located, so as not to cause a tear of the meniscus during normal activities.

Grade 3 meniscus injuries usually have damage to the structure of the meniscus, and until the meniscus has healed, the brace should not be removed at night while sleeping. The brace should not be removed because at rest, the leg and knee may move involuntarily during sleep.

Since the knee joint is in a long-term fixed state during the period of fixation of the brace, the use of the surrounding muscle groups is reduced, and the surrounding muscles can be massaged appropriately at night while sleeping to prevent muscle adhesion.

The brace should not be loosened to avoid displacement of the injured part and secondary injury. You should go to the hospital regularly for review and follow the doctor’s instructions for activities and exercises to avoid delaying your condition.
