Misaligned jaws can be repositioned either manually or surgically. The choice is based on the presence or absence of fracture.
1. If the jaw is simply dislocated without a fracture of the mandible, it can be reset by manipulation. The operator places the thumbs of both hands, wrapped in gauze, near the posterior alveolar teeth. The remaining four fingers are placed near the angle of the mandible on each side for immobilization. Both hands simultaneously pull the mandible forward to release the elastic fixation and use muscle force to reset it to its original position.
2. If the jawbone is fractured, resulting in jaw dislocation, surgery should be performed to internally fixate the fracture and then reset the dislocated jaw to its original position.
If there is any discomfort, please consult a doctor in time, and the reset technique should be operated by a professional doctor.
