Foot cramps fall under the category of transmigration in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Herbs that can be used to treat cramps include white peony, licorice and papaya.
1. White peony has the effects of nourishing blood and regulating menstruation, astringing yin and stopping sweating (astringing yin fluid and reducing sweating), softening the liver and relieving pain (treating pain caused by liver yin deficiency and liver blood deficiency). It is suitable for blood deficiency with yellowish color, palpitation and dizziness, menstrual disorders, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with slight movement), night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping sweating after waking up), contractural pain in the dermato-abdominal region and limbs, and so on.
White peony should not be taken with veratrum. The adverse reactions and contraindications of this drug have not been clarified.
2. Glycyrrhiza glabra has the effects of tonifying the spleen and benefiting qi, relieving pain (relieving more urgent pain symptoms), clearing heat and removing toxins. It is indicated for weak spleen qi (weakness of spleen qi), loose stools (scanty and unformed feces), palpitation, contractural pain in the epigastrium (abdomen) and limbs, sore throat, and heat-poisoned sores and carbuncles (sores and carbuncles appearing on the surface of the skin due to excessive heat and toxins in the body).
Large doses of licorice taken for a long time may cause swelling. This product should not be taken by people with dampness, bloating and edema. This product should not be used with Glycyrrhiza glabra, Coriandrum sativum, Seaweed, Red Dahurian, and Jing Dahurian.
