Can a fractured tibia become a cripple?

Limping is clinically known as lameness. Tibiofibular fractures may present with lameness, which needs to be seen depending on the degree of fracture and treatment. Tibiofibular fractures are most often caused by a large external force and are categorized according to degree: 1. Non-displaced: small splint or plaster fixation. Transverse or short oblique fractures with displacement are manipulated and fixed with small splint or plaster. Unstable ones can be treated with traction on the heel tuberosity, and after 5 weeks, the traction is withdrawn and replaced by plaster immobilization. 2. Severe fracture: comminuted fracture, surgical treatment may lead to shortening of tibiofibular length or deformity healing may occur and limping may occur. If tibiofibular fracture is diagnosed, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and under the guidance of the doctor for standardized treatment in order to reduce the adverse effects.
