Vaginal cysts are a relatively common benign vaginal lesion. Congenital vaginal cysts may be associated with genetic defects. Acquired vaginal cysts are associated with damage to the vaginal mucosa caused by a woman’s labor and delivery, or continued growth of wounds resulting from vaginal surgery, causing cysts to form.
Patients with vaginal cysts may experience a mild vague or dull pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis. There may be tenderness, swelling and burning in the perineum. There may also be discomfort during sexual intercourse. Some patients may experience bladder irritation, which may be characterized by frequent urination, urgency, and painful urination.
When a vaginal cyst is detected, it is advisable to visit a hospital for prompt treatment.
