What’s with the green, slimy feces?

Green mucus-like feces may be a physiological phenomenon, but also may be the manifestation of certain diseases, such as infections, gastrointestinal dysfunction, etc., and should be promptly consulted to find out the cause of the disease.
1. Physiological factors: Consider the recent intake of a large number of green vegetables, such as spinach, leeks, celery, etc., these vegetables are rich in chlorophyll, which may cause the discharge of green mucus-like feces.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Intestinal infection with dysentery bacillus, rotavirus, Vibrio cholerae and other pathogens may cause green mucus-like feces, or even pus and blood stools.
(2) Gastrointestinal dysfunction may lead to diarrhea, in which food remains in the body for too short a period of time without forming a large amount of bilirubin, leading to green mucus-like stools.
This symptom alone is not enough to diagnose the disease, and may be caused by other factors, such as taking certain drugs such as bismuth (bismuth potassium citrate, bismuth bismuth aluminate granules, etc.), which may also lead to green mucousy feces.
It is recommended that if physiological causes are ruled out, the patient should consult a doctor to clarify the cause of the disease and be given targeted medication and treatment under the doctor’s guidance.
