IPL is effective in the treatment of dry eye, but each person is different. Generally, dry eye is treated with medication, non-medication i.e. surgery. IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a high-energy xenon flash lamp that releases a multicolor spectrum of pulsed light sources under high pressure, which can reduce lid source inflammation and thus slow down the discomfort of dry eye patients. Dry eye patients may also be prescribed medications such as sodium vitrate eye drops and polyethylene eye drops to lubricate the ocular surface and relieve eye discomfort. Patients with severe dry eye and normal submandibular gland function can also choose surgical treatment, such as transplantation of autologous submandibular gland.
