Due to the anatomical peculiarities of the ankle and toe area, there are very few local muscles and soft tissues, and subcutaneous tendons, ligaments and articular cartilage, so it is easy to injure these parts and tissues after a foot sprain, and local swelling and pain can easily occur. For determining whether the cartilage, tendons or ligaments are injured, MRI of the ankle is needed. MRI can make a good judgment of soft tissue injuries and bony injuries. The MRI can determine the specific area of the injury and the injured soft tissues, and then formulate a rest and treatment plan, such as strict bed rest, appropriate local heat or physical therapy, to accelerate the repair of the sprain.
