Bai Tong Tang is a formula from “Treatise on Miscellaneous Diseases of the Typhoid Fever”, which consists of scallion white, dried ginger and appendicitis, and is used to treat diseases related to spleen and kidney yang deficiency (deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidneys).
Bai Tong Tang is from Zhang Zhongjing’s Treatise on Miscellaneous Diseases of the Typhoid Fever. The original formula consists of four stems of white onion, one or two pieces of dried ginger, and one piece of appendicia, with the medicines measured in the ancient method, which is slightly different from the modern method of weighing medicines.
Bai Tong Tang can expel yin cold and warm yang qi. It is mainly used for treating spleen and kidney yang deficiency, where the patient has symptoms related to deficiency cold, and diarrhea (stools as thin as water or mixed with undigested food), and uses scallion white to promote yang and disperse cold, and to promote diarrhea. The adverse effects of Bai Tong Tang are not clear, solid, heat, allergy is prohibited, pregnancy, bleeding with caution.
