Tianma is used as a decoction for internal use or powdered for internal use. Tianma, which has the effect of restraining wind, stopping spasm, and calming liver yang, can be used to control the symptoms of epilepsy by a professional physician, but there is no research to show that it can make epilepsy seizure-free. Epilepsy, which belongs to the category of epilepsy in Chinese medicine, can be categorized into yang epilepsy and yin epilepsy during the seizure phase, and requires evidence-based treatment. Yang epilepsy manifests itself in sudden fainting and unconsciousness, with reddish and purplish color, which then turns into blue-purple, blue lips, clenched teeth, upturned eyes, stiff neck and spine, twitching of limbs, foaming at the mouth, and even phlegm chirping in the throat, incontinence of urine and feces, etc. The patient can be treated with Huanglian Xieyu Tang (黄黄连解毒汤) and Yin epilepsy. It can be treated with Huanglian Xieyu Tang and Dinghao Pill, using drugs such as Tianma, Huanglian, Scutellaria baicalensis, Huangbai, Chuanbei, Semenxia, Gallus gallus and Acorus calamus. Yin-eclampsia manifests as sudden fainting, unconsciousness, greenish-gray face, cold hands and feet, slightly closed eyes, stiff limbs, convulsions or no convulsions, foaming at the mouth, but no sound. It can be treated with Wusheng Drink together with Er Chen Tang, using Tianma, Sheng Hanxia, Sheng Nanxing, Poria, Licorice and Chen Pi. The adverse reactions and contraindications of the above formulae are not known. At present, even taking Chinese medicine soup treatment does not guarantee that epileptic patients will no longer suffer from seizures, but can only relieve their symptoms. If you suffer from epilepsy, you should consult a doctor in a timely manner, follow the doctor’s instructions for examination and treatment, and do not use medication without authorization, which may cause your condition to deteriorate.
