Is cystitis contagious?

Cystitis has the potential to be contagious, but it is not always contagious. Whether cystitis is contagious or not cannot be generalized, it is mainly related to the causative organisms, as follows:

1. It is not contagious: the cause of cystitis is caused by bacterial infection, drug damage and radiation damage. Usually, it is mainly due to bacterial infection, and the more common bacteria is Escherichia coli. If bacterial cystitis is caused by E. coli, it is usually not contagious by contact.

In addition, radiation cystitis and glandular cystitis are not usually contagious.

2. Contagious: If cystitis is triggered by bacteria such as gonococcus or Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it can be contagious and usually spreads through sexual contact. Because of this type of cystitis, usually the urethral secretion fluid contains gonococcus or tuberculosis bacillus, and then have sex, there will be a person-to-person transmission.

If you have cystitis, you should seek medical attention to identify the source of the pathogenic bacteria and treat it under the guidance of your doctor.
