What should I pay attention to before and after lip surgery?

The nature of surgery and individual differences determine the risk of various complications, which should be clearly explained to the patient in advance. 1.Infection: Lip surgery is a contamination surgery, although the blood flow is rich and the chance of infection is very low, it can cause local inflammation and even septicemia due to the decrease of body resistance, which requires timely consultation and symptomatic treatment. 2.Local swelling: local tissue is loose and easily swollen after surgical stimulation, generally heavier within 1 week after surgery, most of it will subside after 2 weeks, and the remaining slight swelling will subside completely in about 2-3 months. 3. Scar fading: Both the incision and the soft tissues involved in the incision deep side surgery process will experience a period of scar formation and gradual softening process after surgery, which generally takes about 3 months to 6 months, which may present the phenomenon of red and hard incision, hard subcutaneous tissue, poor ductility, asymmetry on both sides, and even cause unnatural expression, please wait patiently for its fading. After the scar has completely faded and stabilized, it is usually not too obvious and can be seen less clearly at a social distance of more than 1 meter, but it is still visible when you look close. However, there are individuals who may experience hyperplasia, resulting in more obvious scars, which may require further follow-up treatment. 4.Lip numbness or sensory loss: generally recover gradually in about six months to a year. 5. Asymmetry on both sides: Because of the soft tissue structure of the lip, it is still difficult to ensure that the amount of tissue treated on both sides is exactly the same, despite the strict design before surgery, so asymmetry on both sides may occur to varying degrees after surgery (incidence rate of about 50%). If the individual is still obvious 3 months after surgery, it can be repaired for free. 6.Insufficient correction or over-correction may be possible: Usually we will fully communicate with customers before surgery, but surgery and post-operative recovery is a complex process, and there may be small errors with their goals. There are also individuals who have a strong rebound after surgery, and the final effect is not obvious. If you are really dissatisfied, you can repair again. 7.Surgery related to shortening of the upper lip: the surgery may produce some accompanying effects, mainly including thickening of the white lip of the upper lip, mild downward shift of the nasal column and both nasal wings, and slight increase of the exposed nostril, etc., which need to be considered according to your actual situation. 8.Surgery related to lifting the corners of the mouth: as the corners of the mouth are movable parts, frequent talking or eating will stimulate scar growth, and the incision scar will be more obvious in 2-3 months after surgery. Afterwards, the scar will fade, but it may not fade completely, with slight traces, or even more obvious in some people; in addition, there may be localized bulging of the skin in the corner of the mouth or bloating of the red lip tissue, etc., which generally recovers gradually in 1-2 months. Not all of these conditions may occur, and even in the unlikely event that one or more of these conditions do occur, there is no need to worry, as Dr. Pan Berlin will do his best to take steps to remedy and improve the situation. Pre-operative preparation for lip surgery In order for your surgery to be performed in the best physical and psychological condition, please refer to the following preparations before surgery: 1. Please make sure that your physical condition is free of bleeding disorders and active or progressive diseases of the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys and other important organs before surgery, such as patients suffering from hypertension, diabetes or infectious diseases need to be operated after their condition is under control. In addition, those who have been taking steroid hormones and aspirin and other drugs for a long time should preferably stop using them one week before surgery, please consult the relevant doctor. 2.Patients with the following lip conditions are advised to postpone surgery: the presence of oral ulcers, folliculitis and other foci of infection in the lips, acute inflammation, etc. Please consider surgery after the relevant conditions have been controlled and stabilized. 3.Female patients should avoid menstrual period for surgery; pre-pregnancy (3 months) and late pregnancy (3 months) should be suspended for surgery. 4.Post-surgery, due to swelling, scarring and unnatural expressions, requires a certain period of recovery, so please avoid important social occasions in the short term when arranging surgery. 5. Please do not smoke or drink on the day of surgery, pay attention to oral and facial cleanliness before surgery, do not wear makeup, and male customers should shave their beards. 6.People who choose general intravenous anesthesia should abstain from food and water for 6 hours and 4 hours before surgery. 7.Post-operative medication preparation: painkillers (the night after surgery), anti-swelling medication (within 1 week after surgery), mouthwash (within 1 week after surgery), anti-scar ointment (starting 5 days after stitch removal), anti-inflammatory medication (if necessary) Post-operative lip surgery precautions 1.Ice compress on the lips for 30-60 minutes immediately after surgery, and ice compress 3-4 times a day for 30-60 minutes for 3 days afterwards 2.If no special instructions are given, it is not necessary to take antibiotics. In the unlikely event of wound dehiscence, please contact the doctor immediately. 8.Subcutaneous tension reduction suture is applied during the surgery, and some knots are buried in it, which is usually not a problem, but some people may have some reactions to the knots, mainly manifesting as local bulging, hard knots, secretions, exposed knots, etc. If found, the knots can be removed by simple treatment at the hospital. 9.After surgery, there may be local numbness or dullness of sensation in the lips, which is generally recovered gradually in about half a year. 10.The final result can be evaluated after 3 months after surgery, if there is local undercorrection or overcorrection, asymmetry or local dissatisfaction, it can be repaired again after 3 months. 11.For those who have red lip surgery, due to postoperative red lip mucosa chemosis, this process may result in peeling, which lasts about six months. 12.Prevention and treatment about incision scar: try to avoid exaggerated expressions after surgery, and apply anti-scar ointment topically from 5 days after stitch removal for about 3 months continuously. If a raised surface dense hyperplastic scar appears, it can be softened by local steroid hormone injection (once a month); generally 3 months to half a year to gradually fade, eventually presenting flat or depressed softened scar traces, if still more obvious can be further weakened by laser. 13. Please contact your doctor for follow-up after six months.
