How to treat high white blood cells in leukemia

The treatment of leukemia with high white blood cells mainly includes anti-leukemia treatment and emergency hyperleukemia management.

1. Anti-leukemia treatment: most leukemia patients will have elevated white blood cells, and chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) can be administered for the leukemia itself.

Chemotherapeutic agents for induction of remission: vincristine combined with prednisone (for acute lymphoblastic leukemia ALL), anthracyclines combined with cytarabine (for acute myelogenous leukemia patients with AML), and so on. For patients with poor prognosis after remission can choose HSCT treatment.

2. Urgent management of hyperleukinemia: when the patient’s blood leukocytes > 100*10^9/l, the patient will experience leukocyte stasis. At this time, a blood cell separator should be used urgently to remove excessive leukocytes by single harvesting, and hydrotherapy and chemotherapy should be given at the same time; short-term pretreatment before chemotherapy: dexamethasone can be used in patients with ALL, and hydroxyurea can be used in patients with AML.

It is recommended that patients go to the hospital in time, under the guidance of the doctor, improve the relevant examination and receive standardized treatment. Drugs need to be used under the guidance of a doctor.
