What is Hysteroscopic IUD Removal Surgery

When a patient has a broken or embedded birth control ring, a hysteroscopic IUD removal can be done. When there is no special condition of the patient’s birth control ring, the patient does not need to do hysteroscopic IUD removal, but only need to do the general IUD removal surgery. However, in many cases, the IUD breaks during the removal process, or the IUD becomes lodged in the myometrium due to inflammatory diseases, endometriosis, etc. In this case, the IUD cannot be removed. In such cases, the IUD cannot be removed and repeated operations in the uterine cavity cause great pain to the patient, then the patient can choose hysteroscopic IUD removal. The advantage of hysteroscopic IUD removal is that the probe of the hysteroscope can directly enter the patient’s uterine cavity to observe the position of the IUD. If most of the IUD is in the uterine cavity, with a small portion in the myometrium, the IUD can be removed with grasping forceps under the direction of the probe. If most or all of the IUD is in the myometrium, then open surgery is required to cut through the myometrium and remove the IUD.
