Hyperthyroid neck generally refers to goiter. The difference between goiter and simple fat neck lies in the causes, manifestations and treatments.
1. Causes: goiter can be caused by iodine deficiency or iodine excess, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Graves’ disease, etc. Fatty neck is usually caused by obesity and excessive fat accumulation on the neck.
2. Manifestation: Goiter is usually caused by the enlargement of the thyroid gland, not the whole neck; fat neck is usually caused by the accumulation of fat, so the whole neck will be enlarged, and will not be enlarged only in the thyroid gland.
3. Treatment: goiter can be treated with surgery if it produces compression symptoms; fat neck usually needs to be reduced through proper exercise, controlling the total calorie intake, etc., and fat neck can be relieved after the fat is reduced.
If you are not sure whether the thickening of the neck is caused by thyroid disease, it is recommended that you go to the hospital and ask the doctor to make a judgment.
