The ascending aorta is approximately 5 cm long and has an average width of 2.8-3.0 cm of internal diameter; exceeding this width is considered ascending aortic widening. This condition often occurs due to increased blood pressure, bacterial infection, aortitis, trauma, atherosclerosis, and congenital malformations. Because of the gradual widening of the ascending aorta, an ascending aortic aneurysm can be diagnosed when it reaches 5 cm. The lesion of ascending aortic aneurysm can cause the lesion of valve, which in turn can cause heart dysfunction, and the development of serious degree may lead to the rupture of ascending aortic aneurysm, and the patient will have sudden hemorrhagic shock or even death. Therefore, in case of ascending aortic aneurysm widening, strict control of blood pressure and active treatment of the causes of atherosclerosis, such as hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes and smoking, as well as active treatment of arteritis, such as immune arteritis, are necessary to avoid further aggravation of ascending aortic aneurysm widening until clinical consequences occur.
