Huangqi Jianzhong Tang is composed of 9g of Gui Zhi, 6g of Licorice, four jujubes, 18g of Paeoniae Alba, 9g of Ginger, 30g of Caramel, and 9g of Astragalus.
Astragalus Jianzhong Tang is a warming agent, which is composed of Xiao Jianzhong Tang plus Astragalus 9g, in which Caramel warms the middle and replenishes the deficiency, eases the urgency and relieves pain (relieving urgent pain), Gui Zhi warms the yang and disperses the cold, Paeonia lactiflora benefits the yin and nourishes the blood and eases the urgency and relieves pain, Ginger and Jujubes regulate the ying and wei (making the internal and external qi of the human body smooth, each in its own way), Licorice regulates the properties of the various Chinese herbs, and Astragalus strengthens the qi and strengthens the spleen.
The combination of the herbs in Astragalus Jianzhong Tang is effective in tonifying the middle Jiaoqi (treating deficiency of qi by replenishing the spleen), harmonizing the li and easing the urgency, and can be used for treating deficiency of the spleen and stomach and deficiency of the middle Jiaoqi (weakness of qi in the spleen and stomach), which manifests itself as abdominal constriction, coldness, and pain (spasm and convulsion due to wind-cold sensation), and so on. This formula is contraindicated in cases of deficiency of Yin and exuberant fire, vomiting and middle-heat fullness.
