Is it possible to cure advanced hypopharyngeal cancer?

In the middle and late stages of hypopharyngeal cancer, there is hope for cure if it is treated actively and standardized. The treatment of hypopharyngeal cancer is a comprehensive treatment mainly based on surgery, supplemented by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. If there is no recurrence for 5 years after surgery, it is called clinical cure.
Hypopharyngeal cancer can generally be categorized into pyriform fossa cancer, posterior ring cancer, and posterior pharyngeal wall cancer. As hypopharyngeal cancer is relatively hidden, it may only manifest as foreign body sensation or pain in the throat in the early stage, which is often easily neglected by patients, and the tumor has already developed to a more advanced stage when they seek medical treatment.
For early hypopharyngeal cancer, measures such as laryngoscopic carbon dioxide laser resection and radical radiotherapy can be considered.
For middle and advanced hypopharyngeal cancer, the tumor may have already destroyed the adjacent structures or even have metastasis to the cervical lymph nodes, which requires surgical resection of the tumor lesion and cervical lymph node dissection. Surgery may require hemilaryngeal and hemilaryngeal resection, total laryngeal and total hypopharyngeal resection, etc. If the resection area is too large, skin flap repair and reconstruction is also needed. After surgery, further radiotherapy and chemotherapy are needed.
If patients with advanced stage of hypopharyngeal cancer, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and choose individualized treatment plan according to the degree of lesions.
