Many parents of children with strabismus may think that since their children are young, they do not have any aesthetic requirements anyway, and that when their children are older, their strabismus may get better, so there is no need to have surgery as soon as strabismus is detected. In fact, this statement is wrong. The earlier the strabismus is treated, the better, because the earlier the strabismus is treated, the better the results. Children’s eyes are not yet developed, so if they are treated early, the strabismus can be corrected in time and lead the normal growth track, so they can develop normally in the future. Children over 12 years old will be much less sensitive to strabismus and amblyopia treatment; and the key to strabismus surgery is to establish binocular functions, such as stereo vision, rather than simply for aesthetic purposes. Therefore, once a child is found to have strabismus, the best treatment period should be seized and not delayed.
