How long does it take for misoprostol tablets to expel a pregnancy sac?

Most women can expel the gestational sac within 6 hours after taking misoprostol tablets orally. A small number of sensitive individuals experience abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, and even expulsion of pregnancy material within about half an hour. Misoprostol is a prostaglandin analogue that has the ability to excite the uterus and soften the cervix. Clinically, the combination of mifepristone and misoprostol tablets is usually used to terminate early pregnancy. Mifepristone is given orally on days 1-2; misoprostol is given orally on day 3, and fasting is required for 2 hours before and after the dose. In most cases, the gestational sac can be eliminated within 6 hours. If it has not been expelled for more than 6 hours, it needs to be considered that the medical abortion may have failed and the dose can be increased or changed to an evacuation procedure depending on the case. When using Misoprostol, it is important to note that it is contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, asthma, cardiovascular disease, and colitis. The main side effect of medical abortion is a lot of bleeding, and very few people may need emergency scraping to terminate the pregnancy due to heavy bleeding, so medical abortion must be performed in a hospital with regular resuscitation conditions.
