Is retinitis pigmentosa an inherited disease?

Retinitis pigmentosa is a hereditary disease that mainly involves the retinal pigment epithelium and the photoreceptor cells and is a common blinding eye disease. Clinical manifestations are characterized by progressive night blindness, centripetal narrowing of the visual field, waxing and waning of the fundus retinal papillae, thinning of retinal blood vessels, and retinal osteoblast-like pigmentation. Most develop before the age of 10, a few occur in 20-30 years old, and very few develop after the age of 40. During the treatment, we should eat more food containing protein and fatty acids, and also eat more food rich in vitamins, to supplement the body’s vitamin A and vitamin B12. During the treatment period, we should go to bed early and get up early, do not stay up late for a long time.
