One of the drug insert adverse effects of reserpine is thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, which has hematologic changes most commonly associated with thrombocytopenia. In this respect, prolonged use of rifampicin may lead to thrombocytopenia.
Rifampicin can combine with proteins in plasma to form antigen-antibody complexes, stimulating the body to produce the corresponding antibodies, leading to platelet destruction; antigen-antibody complexes can also be attached to the platelet surface with the participation of complement to directly damage platelets, leading to platelet coagulation and lysis or cleared by mononuclear phagocytosis system, resulting in thrombocytopenia.
It is recommended to use this drug under the supervision of a doctor. If the blood test reveals severe thrombocytopenia, the drug must be stopped immediately and further examination must be conducted by a medical professional to clarify the cause of thrombocytopenia and take treatment.
