TRAb is a thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibody and TRAb is mainly used in the diagnosis of hyperthyroid Graves’ disease. Usually, the positive rate of TRAb can reach 70%-95% in patients with first-episode hyperthyroid Graves’ disease. However, not all patients with hyperthyroid Graves’ disease are positive for thyrotropin receptor antibodies, so it cannot be used as a necessary indicator for diagnosis. TRAb testing can be used for differential diagnosis of thyrotoxicosis, such as subacute thyroiditis, postpartum thyroiditis and toxic nodular goiter, where TRAb is negative. TRAb is also useful for predicting recurrence of hyperthyroidism, and TRAb A positive TRAb has a specificity and sensitivity of more than 50% for predicting recurrence of hyperthyroidism after antithyroid drug therapy. However, a positive TRAb does not necessarily mean that hyperthyroidism will recur.
