Contraindications of Siwei San

The contraindications of Si-Hui San are not clear. The efficacy of Si-Hui San is to dispel heat, dredge the liver and regulate the spleen. However, the following precautions should be taken: 1) caution should be exercised if there is deficiency of liver yin and dystocia (pain in the area of the coarseness of the ribs). ②Do not use if the limbs are not warm due to cold syncope. ③Pregnant women should be cautious. Avoid irritation and fatigue, and keep a relaxed mood. The original formula of Si Reverse San is from “Treatise on Typhoid Fever”, which is composed of Citrus aurantium, Chai Hu, Paeonia lactiflora and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, and has the effect of resolving the heat, dredging the liver and regulating the spleen. It is mainly used in treating fever with no warmth in the hands and feet, distension and pain in the abdomen and ribs, pain in the epigastrium (abdomen), diarrhea and heaviness in the lower part of the body. In this formula, Chai Hu mainly enters the liver and gallbladder meridian, with the efficacy of elevating yang qi, dispersing the liver and relieving depression (treating depression by dispersing the liver qi), and transmitting the evil out of the body; Bai Shao astringes the yin, softens the liver and nourishes the blood, which is complementary to Chai Hu and can nourish the liver and blood, and disperses liver qi; Hovenia Hortensiliensis can regulate qi and relieve depression, and dispel heat to break up the knot, which, when complemented with Chai Hu, can elevate the clear and reduce the turbidity; and Roasted Glycyrrhiza Glabra can regulate the nature of the medicine, benefiting the spleen and neutralizing the middle. The combination of the four herbs is effective in relieving heat, dredging the liver and regulating the spleen. The adverse effects and contraindications of Si Reverse San are not known.
