Tamsulosin hydrochloride generally refers to tamsulosin hydrochloride, an organic compound with the molecular formula C20H28N2O5S-HCl, which is a urologic medication used in the treatment of prostate hyperplasia.
Tamsulosin hydrochloride belongs to the third generation of super-selective long-acting α1 inhibitors, which was successfully developed by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical in Japan and approved by the FDA for marketing in July 1992. It can relax the smooth muscle of the prostate gland, thus improving the clinical symptoms such as difficulty in urination caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia.
