Women do not always experience bleeding when they have sex for the first time. If the hymen is thick and flexible or if the hole in the hymen is large, there may be no bleeding. If the hymen has some very small blood vessels and is weak, there may be a small amount of bleeding the first time you have sex, and you may have a small amount of bleeding for up to a week after intercourse. If a woman was inattentive when she was a child, and her activities were rough or strenuous, her hymen may have broken without her knowledge, and thus she may not bleed the first time she has sex.
