Can you take lutein for glaucoma?

Patients with glaucoma can take lutein, but lutein does not play a role in treating glaucoma.
Lutein is a health care product that can protect the retina and relieve visual fatigue, but it does not have the effect of lowering intraocular pressure and nourishing the optic nerve, so lutein does not play a therapeutic role for glaucoma patients.
Patients with glaucoma need to stabilize the intraocular pressure within the normal range through medication, laser, surgery and other treatments to avoid damage to the optic nerve.
Medication includes topical eye drops such as timolol maleate drops, tafluprost drops and other intraocular pressure-lowering medications, and intravenous medications such as 20% mannitol.
Laser treatment includes laser peripheral iridotomy, laser trabeculoplasty and so on.
Surgical treatments include trabeculectomy, glaucoma valve implantation and so on.
It is recommended that glaucoma patients should seek timely medical examination and targeted treatment according to the doctor’s advice.
