A bulging disc and a herniated disc are two different diseases. Although the causes and pathogenesis of these two diseases are identical, there is a fundamental difference between a bulging lumbar disc and a herniated lumbar disc. The difference between these two diseases is whether or not the outer fibrous tissue of the lumbar disc is damaged, if it is a lumbar disc bulge, the outer fibers of the disc are not broken, but the outer fibers are squeezed and deformed because of the increased pressure of the disc, so it is also called a lumbar disc bulge. The lumbar disc herniation is the outer fibers of the disc have been damaged for some reason, the lumbar disc then protrudes outside the vertebral body, and outside the lumbar spine are some ligaments, nerves, blood vessels and other soft tissues, the larger the disc protrudes, the more severe the degree of stimulation of the surrounding soft tissues, the more serious the symptoms. Some people with particularly elastic fibers outside the intervertebral disc may also experience severe symptoms. However, patients with bulging discs can be completely cured, while it is very unlikely that patients with herniated discs can be cured.
