When the wound edges are coated with mupirocin ointment and pus develops, it is possible that the wound was not thoroughly debrided before the ointment was applied, and it is also possible that there is an infection from a pathogenic bacteria that cannot be controlled by the mupirocin ointment.
Wounds should be adequately debrided and disinfected the first time treatment is administered, especially contaminated wounds, which may become infected even if the ointment is applied without thorough debridement and disinfection.
Mupirocin ointment is not a panacea in anti-inflammatory and anti-infection, mainly for infections caused by gram-positive cocci commonly found in the soft tissues of the skin; if the wound is combined with infections caused by other pathogenic bacteria that cannot be controlled by mupirocin ointment, e.g. gram-negative bacteria and anaerobic bacteria, a septic infection may develop even if mupirocin ointment is applied alone, and other antibiotics need to be replaced.
In conclusion, wound suppuration and infection, need to consult the general surgery department of the regular hospital in a timely manner, and follow the doctor’s advice to deal with.
