Where is the cardia located?

The cardia is located at the junction where the esophagus joins the stomach, the entrance to the stomach.

The role of the cardia is to facilitate the downward flow of food from the esophagus into the stomach. In addition, it also prevents the food in the stomach from flowing back up into the esophagus and serves as a bridge between the upper and lower parts of the stomach.

The stomach is divided into cardia, fundus, body, lesser curvature, greater curvature, angle, sinus and pylorus. The cardia is the entrance to the stomach, while the pylorus is the exit of the stomach.

If there is an abnormality in the cardia, it is clinically common in the following diseases such as cardia dystrophy, gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc. It will produce symptoms such as pain under the subxiphoid process of the sternum, difficulty in swallowing, and food reflux. Omeprazole, domperidone, etc. need to be used as prescribed by the doctor, and surgical treatment if necessary.
