Cystostomy Tube Replacement Costs

Cystostomy tubes need to be replaced regularly, and the cost of replacement varies slightly depending on the material of the tube. If the tube is replaced with a regular double-lumen rubber catheter, the cost of a replacement is about$60, with the tube costing about$20. However, if a double-lumen silicone fistula catheter is replaced, the replacement will cost about$100, with the silicone urinary catheter costing about$40-$50. Replacement is done by removing the original tube, carefully sterilizing the fistula opening, inserting the new tube into the bladder through the fistula opening, and then injecting saline to test for patency. Generally, vesicostomy tubes are replaced about once a month, but if there is an infection or if the tube is not clear and becomes blocked, it should be replaced at any time.
