It is common to see the term “epilepsy knife” on the Internet. It is easy to see that the so-called “epileptic knife” is another name for the “128-lead video EEG”. Under this name, 128-lead EEG has been given a lot of magical functions. In fact, 128-conductor video EEG is a kind of digital video EEG, with the general functions of video EEG machine, which is used for invasive EEG examination with embedded electrodes in the skull and for localization of epileptic foci. This type of equipment is basically available in epilepsy centers that currently perform epilepsy surgery and is a commonly used EEG device. There is no justification for calling a 128-lead video EEG machine an “epileptic knife”, because it is only an EEG device that is used for diagnosis and has no therapeutic effect in itself. Calling an EEG machine an “epilepsy knife” is likely to mislead patients.
