What to do for diabetic elderly with urinary incontinence

Urinary incontinence in the diabetic elderly is mainly treated with catheterization to avoid urine contamination of the local skin, which can cause skin infections; at the same time, relevant examinations should be improved to understand whether the patient has neurogenic bladder or stress urinary incontinence caused by urinary retention. If these conditions exist, continuous catheterization, bladder function exercise, and nerve-nourishing medication should be given in order to better restore bladder function. If, after the above treatment, the patient’s urinary retention still cannot be corrected, with hydronephrosis and renal insufficiency, cystostomy treatment is required if necessary. Of course, for elderly female patients, especially those who have given birth too many times, they need to give functional exercises for the bladder-urethral sphincter, pay attention to the functional exercises of collecting the abdomen and lifting the buttocks, and avoid holding urine, so as to better control the occurrence of urinary incontinence.
