Does pediatric cryptorchidism require surgery?

Pediatric cryptorchidism must be treated surgically because the optimal temperature for testicular growth and sperm production is 1-2 degrees Celsius lower than the human body temperature, and the scrotum is where it belongs. If no surgery is done, over time, not only will the testicle development be damaged, but it can also cause cancer, so cryptorchidism needs to be treated. The best time for surgery is before 2 years old. At present, there are two kinds of treatment for cryptorchidism, one is traditional open surgery and the other is minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. Traditional open surgery causes great damage, and surgical marks are visible on the body surface after surgery, and the postoperative scar affects the child’s mental health; laparoscopic surgery is less traumatic, faster recovery, more effective, and has good cosmetic effects.        The cost of surgery is different from hospital to hospital, but the difference is not great. If laparoscopic surgery is used, the cost is a little more expensive (about 1,000 yuan more than open surgery). Cryptorchidism surgery is a routine surgery in pediatric urology, and there is basically no risk. For high cryptorchidism, if the spermatic cord is not developed long enough, the surgery may need to be staged, and the staged surgery needs to be spaced out for six months.
