Mild herniated discs at cervical 5-6 can be treated conservatively if there are no symptoms or if the symptoms are mild. Surgery can be used if the symptoms are severe and seriously affect your life. A mild herniated disc in the 5-6 cervical spine may cause neck and back pain, pain and numbness in the upper extremities, etc. If the symptoms are not severe, conservative treatment can be used. Conservative treatment mainly consists of taking oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief (such as celecoxib), reducing edema with decongestants such as Myzolene Mannitol, using nutritive drugs such as methylcobalamin, and wearing a cervical brace to limit strenuous activities. The use of medications should be under a doctor’s supervision. Most of the cervical disc herniation can be relieved by conservative treatment. If the symptoms are not relieved by regular conservative treatment, and the life is seriously affected, surgical treatment can also be used. Surgical treatments include minimally invasive surgery, anterior incision decompression and bone graft fusion with internal fixation.
