Conservative treatment is not recommended for small cell lung cancer because small cell lung cancer progresses rapidly and is prone to lymph node and multi-organ metastases.
Lung cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the mucosal epithelium of the bronchial tubes. According to pathologic typing, lung cancer includes two major categories: small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, in which small cell lung cancer has a higher degree of malignancy than non-small cell lung cancer, and is more prone to recurrence and metastasis, so the survival period of patients with small cell lung cancer is significantly shorter than that of patients with non-small cell lung cancer.
The 5-year survival rate of stage I small cell lung cancer patients is about 50%; stage II is about 25%; stage III drops to about 10%; and stage IV is less than 3%.
Depending on the clinical stage, small cell lung cancer patients are treated in different ways, but conservative treatment should not be chosen. It is recommended that patients go to regular hospitals immediately after diagnosis, follow the standardized diagnosis and treatment advice of specialists, and have regular follow-ups.
